The school will be open to welcome your children from 8:30 a.m. on school days. Reception will start after the first bell at 8:45 a.m.

Departure from school will follow the last bell at 3:04 p.m. You can park at the front of the school in the designated area while waiting for your child.

Please consult the Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay for more information, or the mobile application Bus Status (delay, cancellation).

Attendance

We remind you of the importance of contacting the school each time your child is late or absent during the school day. This proactive approach allows our secretarial staff to efficiently monitor attendance, and we are required by the Ministry of Education to provide a reason for absence.

If your child must leave during school hours, please write a note authorizing him or her to leave. You can also call 807-344-8866 or send an e-mail to escdlv@csdcab.on.ca

Compulsory schooling : Pupils who have reached the age of 6 must attend school until the age of 18, or until they graduate. Under the compulsory schooling rule, pupils are admitted to 1re year in September of any school year, provided they have reached the age of six (6) by December 31 of the same calendar year. If a person under the age of compulsory schooling is enrolled in an elementary school, the present applies during the period for which he or she is enrolled, as if he or she had reached the age of compulsory schooling.

School staff responsibilities : The school maintains a daily register of all students' absences and reasons for absence through Aspen. According to B009-P School attendanceFor each absence, there is communication between the school and the home. Where applicable, original supporting documentation from the physician must be retained for two years in the student's Ontario Student Record (OSR). At the end of each month, the principal or designate reviews student attendance data in Aspen. Together with school staff, the principal takes a critical look at each student to identify those at risk. Once recurrent absences have been identified, the next steps are documented using the B009-F1 Managing absences or late arrivals and stored in the student's DSO.

Prolonged absences

If you expect your child to be absent for an extended period of time (e.g., sporting events such as field hockey tournaments and dance competitions, or travel), you must inform the school so that the principal can fill out the school exemption form.

Frequent absences or lateness :

Step 1 Between 5 and 10 absences/delays

  • E-mail from the school

Step 2 Between 10 and 15 absences/delays

  • Call from deputy management or management

Step 3 Between 15 and 20 absences/delays

  • Meeting with management

Step 4 More than 20 absences/delays

  • The CSDCAB attendance counsellor takes charge of the case

School operations

Please consult daily schedule for the entire day. Please note that the school follows 2 separate daily schedules, one for students in grades 7 and 8 and the other for students in grades 9 to 12.

Elementary students (grades 7 and 8)

The school provides basic school supplies for students in grades 7 and 8. These school supplies will remain at the school and will be replaced as needed. However, the student must be sent to school with :

  • Locker padlock;
  • Pencil case;
  • A pair of indoor/outdoor espadrilles with non-slip soles (for physical education)
  • Gym clothes for those who have physical education classes on their schedule (t-shirt with school logo and athletic socks that respect the school dress code).

High school students (grades 9 to 12)

Here's the list of school supplies your teen will need in high school. Teachers will advise students if they require subject-specific materials.

  • Pens (blue and red)
  • HB pencils
  • 1 pack of highlighter pencils
  • 2 erasers
  • 1 pack of 3-hole lined paper
  • 1 x 2″ binder for each subject
  • Tab dividers
  • 1 case
  • 1 padlock
  • School bag

Physical education :

  • A pair of espadrilles for indoor and outdoor use, with non-slip soles.
  • Gym clothes for those who have physical education classes on their schedule (t-shirt with school logo and athletic socks that respect the school dress code). These can be purchased through SchoolCash at the beginning of the year.

We ask all students and families to carefully read our Code of Conduct. Understanding and respecting these guidelines ensures a safe and respectful atmosphere for all members of our school community.

Resource information : B-015-D-2 DRESS CODE

As part of the physical education course, the school has agreed that wearing a suit is compulsory, and the gym uniform includes a comfortable cotton shirt bearing the school logo. This uniform not only fosters a sense of unity and pride among our students, but also ensures their comfort during physical activities. What's more, students can choose sports socks that conform to the school's dress code. A sports bag with the school logo will be provided for each new student. It's a practical way for your child to store and transport his or her sportswear and equipment, making sure everything stays organized.

In order to defray the cost of this costume, we are asking for the sum of 35 $. Please make your payment by SchoolCash.

To maintain a clean and safe environment in our gymnasium, we ask students to bring non-marking indoor shoes which will be used exclusively for physical activities inside the school. These shoes will prevent damage to the gymnasium floor, while ensuring good grip during the various activities.

No student may use personal mobile devices during teaching hours, except in the following circumstances:

  • for educational purposes, as directed by a member of staff;
  • for health and medical purposes;
  • to meet special educational needs.

Students are responsible for their personal mobile devices (loss, theft, breakage), for the way they use them and for the consequences of non-compliance with the school board's policy on the use of personal mobile devices.

If a device is seen or heard during teaching hours, the student will be required to put it away until the end of the day.

Students in grade 7e at 12e year

Personal mobile devices for students in grade 7e to 12e year must be stored out of sight and switched off or muted during teaching hours, except when their use is explicitly authorized by a member of staff in the circumstances described above.

Why is this important?

According to the COMPASS survey conducted this school year, only 1 % of students in 9e at 12e year-olds in our region meet the guideline of 2 hours or less of recreational screen time per day. Excessive screen time, especially on social media, has been shown to have negative effects on mental and physical health.
